Cadet
News
March 2011
Dear Cadet Families and friends,
Welcome to 2011. Changes are on the horizon with the
Branch committee.
On March 15, 2011 we held our Branch AGM and we welcome
Clare Nolan.
Dave Dooley after many years of dedication to the Unit
has stepped down as
Chairperson and is replaced by Joanna Nolan. Dave will
remain on the
committee along with John Linschoten, John Hannan,
Jacqui Sims and
MJ Meloche. Ron Meloche remains as the Treasurer and I
am the temporary
secretary until Ian and I leave for Perth later this
year.
The year was a continuous working bee for the committee.
The unit building
is slowly being repainted inside and outside so it is an
ongoing project.
The boat shed was re-clad, painted and is soon to have
new Sea Cadet signage.
The upstairs classroom received a new coat of paint and
was relined with
information Bulletin boards to make it more welcoming to
cadets. This work
was done jointly with the 41 Sqdn.
Two unit members were selected to go to the 2010
Singapore Sea Cadet
exchange, Vicky Saysell as the escort officer and CPO
Faye Meloche as the
cadet. This year again we have three unit members
selected to go to the 2011
Singapore exchange, Cadets Grace Stewart and Adam Farrow
plus Sam Ratten
as the Escort Officer. I am sure they will have a
wonderful time.
We brought on board another racing Feva and another
kayak. We are slowly
disposing of some of the older unused Cutters to make
more room in the boat shed.
We continue to do our regular fundraising at the Porirua
Saturday Morning Market
clean up which contributed to the purchase of the kayak.
Our new mayor Nick Legget was our guest presenter at the
December Prize-giving.
The Porirua RSA President Roger Kingford presented the
RSA John Verran Trophy
to the deserving cadet Kate Thompson. Congratulations to
all the cadets for their
hard work through the year.
We continue to help the Unit Commander, recruit new
cadets, and hope parents are
doing their bit by spreading the word about TSTaupo to
friends and family.
The committee will continue to support our unit the best
we can.
We look forward to another successful year and more new
cadets.
Carole McPherson
Branch Secretary
